Description of the Bird

Size and shape similar to other phoebe species (elongated body, between 6 & 7 inches long, a little smaller than nearby Say's Phoebe). Located in small willow tree along a water ditch next to water filtration plant. Behavior: flittering about among the branches catching insects. Would fly up a catch an insect, and would move about from branch to branch among the tree. Often pumping its tail and spreading tail while perched. Dark, nearly black, head, back, wings, tail, and upper breast. White belly and vent. White on belly extended into a V shape in upper breast. Black eye and bill. Head had a peak shape. Difficult to hear calls or song, as the filtration plant was hissing quite loudly.

Similar Species Discussion

Quite distinctive as a flycatcher; no other species of this shape and size is black all over, with white belly.
