Description of the Bird
Clear view of characteristic black hood with yellow face, breast and belly with olive green back. The bird was singing frequently both from high perches (50ft. plus) and lower branches. It was foraging along the foundation and gutter of an older building along with numerous Yellow-rumped Warblers. A couple times it worked a circuit around the immediate area and briefly down to the river. It would be quiet for up to about 20 minutes but at least once sang continuously for 10 minutes.
Similar Species Discussion
Frankly there's not anything that could be easily confused with good looks at this species.
Resources Used
We were both familiar with this species from birding in the East. We did check song against Sibley recording.
Previous Experience
I birded for 30 years plus in Ohio often going to southern Ohio where this bird breeds. I have seen numerous times all the other N.A. yellow breasted, olive backed with black on head warblers.
