Description of the Bird

Still had a lot of red in feathers. But, not as bright as you normally see in full colors in summer. Identified it by the red, beak, and black eye slash.

Similar Species Discussion

Similiar red color, maybe a tanger or pine grosbeak. I ruled out tanagers or grosbeak because of bill. And ruled out grosbeak because not white in black on wings. if misidentified it could be Red Crossbill. The crossbill has different bill.

Resources Used

Binoculars

Previous Experience

Seen several along with species with similiar colors; summer and scarlet tanagers doing southwest willow flycatcher surveys in New Mexico.
