Description of the Bird
I am reporting this bird since it is a winter record of this species, which is not known to occur in this part of the state in winter very often.
Bird looked consistant with Loggerhead Shrike with short and thick black mask, shorter bill, and white throat contrasting with grayer chest. The bird flew from power line down to some brush and then flew away.
Similar Species Discussion
The short bill length, thicker mask and pale throat with gray chest help eliminate the more expected Northern Shrike (for that time of year).
Resources Used
I consulted my Sibley's (1st edition) and also posted the photos to the cobird facebook group where every person felt the bird was a Loggerhead.
Previous Experience
I have moderate experience with both Northern and Loggerhead Shrike here in Colorado.
