Description of the Bird

Bird flew into mist nets at Ridgway Banding Station, Confluence Park, Ridgway State Park, Ridgway, CO. Bird was unknown sex, hatch-year individual. Feathers beginning to have blue cast over green rectrices. Missing most feathers on top of head. 

Similar Species Discussion

Other buntings have similar shape and bill, but there is no other bird that had similar enough appearance to be considered.

I have observed many Painted Buntings in Texas, as well as Lazuli and Indigo Buntings in various places. Birding for 20 years; banding for 3.
