Description of the Bird
Largish Empid with broad tail, flat head, medium length bill (dark maxilla, pinkish mandible without dark tip). Back and crown moderately bright green, extending down onto auriculars which were gray-green, contrasting sharply with white throat. Crisp thin and very narrow white eyering (circular, no elliptical quality). Some dusky on sides of chest. Belly pale yellowish. Wings blackish with bright buff wingbars, yellow-green to yellow-buff secondary edges and whitish tertial edges. Primary extension long. Tail blackish. Intermittently would flip tail vigourously upward. Twice gave "Peek" call typical of this species. Note that all photos (except one in flight) taken in deep shadow and primarily are used to give an idea of shape and contrast in wing.
Similar Species Discussion
Least Flycatcher with thicker eyering, smaller tail, smaller bill and shorter primary extension, whit call
Eastern Willow Flycatcher with darker overall color, usually a bit shorter primary extension, grayer head, typically crested appearance, and whit call
Previous Experience
Moderate with Alder, extensive with Least, modest to moderate with Eastern Willow
